Habits Shape Your Future

As a human being, you are a creature of a series of habits; some help you move forward, some may be holding you back. While watching today’s 55 seconds, you may want to ask yourself:

  • If I had to, how would I describe my most prevalent habit of interacting with my family?
  • How would I describe my most prevalent habit of managing my family’s finances?
  • What might I do to improve on either or both of them?

Habits are among the few aspects of life where each of us has total control and can improve upon immediately.

Studies show that 40% of people’s actions are habitual. They’re unconscious decisions programed at an earlier time…and usually under different circumstances.

Some habits like how you drive …or the way you walk, unless they’re dangerous, rarely call for change.

Others, like how you manage your finances in a volatile economy or how you interact with family members as they grow, usually call for an update in your behavior.

Paul Batalden said, “Every system is perfectly designed to get the result it gets.”

If you’re not getting the results you want, it may be because your system. Your habits are keeping you from them.

It’s true “old habits die hard” …but an effective family fiduciary makes the hard moves necessary to get to where they want to go.
