Buddy founded Superior Planning in 1982 to assist family leaders with protecting, growing, and passing on their family wealth. He has personally assisted hundreds of families in realizing their vision and achieving their goals.

He is the creator of the Superplan®, a pioneering family wealth and relationship management system that coordinates the efforts of the family and their professional advisors, presenting all the information family leaders need to make important decisions in one, easy to use format.

As president of Superior Planning, Inc., a California Registered Investment Advisor, Buddy is responsible for the oversight, planning, and implementation progress of each client family, as well as the firm’s general operations and business development efforts.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minor in Economics from Baldwin Wallace College; as well as certificates as a Certified Financial Planner, Accredited Estate Planner, Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC). He is also an NASD Registered Representative and Registered Principal (Compliance Supervisor).

Mr. Thomas is a published author of three books and multiple articles, and the creator of the weekly “55 Second Family Fiduciary” video series. Over the years, Buddy has presented on the spectrum of family wealth issues to a variety of local, national, and international audiences, and is an active member of numerous professional industry organizations.

He is on the boards of trustees of the Catholic Community Foundation of San Diego and Build A Miracle, and a member of San Diego Rotary Club 33 and other non-profit councils and committees.

Buddy and his wife Liz live in Scripps Ranch and have two grown sons Dominic and George.
